What's the most useful class you've ever taken?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 09, 2008:

Honestly...ballet.  I took ballet classes for all of my childhood and into my late teens.  Ballet taught me to be aware of my body, and to be aware of the spirit that moves it.

Being a dance mom, I can totally relate to this.  Gives me hope that all of these classes are important as part of life lessons :) - thanks!

That's a ditto for me too Jen!  I started ballet at 12 years old and decided after the first class, this is what I want to do, be a prima ballerina.  Ballet taught me discipline, how to feel my body and the way it moves, how to glissade between people, partner, create team energy moving through class, rehearsals or performances, having compassion for others when their body becomes injured, teach others, listen to the music withoin my body.  In college, I found modern and thought, no pointe, no bloody feet, no Balanchine twig body…I'm there.  And then began my psychological journey as to dance the way I feel.

Dance also kept me from the peer pressure that I could have succumbed to in my adolescent years.  Ballet and dance gave me self -esteem.  A conviction to be ME and love who I am.  I knew what I could do within my body and how my body felt  “doing”.  My intuition was heightened and learned at a very early age having dance in my life.

Thanks for reminding me Jen…how wonderful the lessons were for a lifetime.

Thanks ohmsmom and Healing Artist Entrepreneur! :)

HAE…my college dance experience evolved into flamenco, and WOW, I  really saw the stark difference between “ballet body” and “flamenco body”…I loved the passion, I loved the attitude, and like you said, I really appreciated the lack of bloody pointe shoes!
